Playing with the Sand

This is a painting I wanted to do for a long, long time, but never got the nerve to jump to it. This is me, my little son when he was a little bit over a year and my daughter Daniela, and we are at the Arrigunaga Beach in Getxo, north of Bilbao, which was the town we used to live in while we were in Spain from June 2004 until February 2006.
My daughter was just immerse playing with the sand, my little one just smilling at daddy who was taking this picture, and me…. well, putting my lotion on so I can just lay down and tan…. that didn’t happen. My daughter after a few minutes of playing with the sand decided to crawl (she doesn’t walk) all the way to the ocean for which I had to jump, and my little angel thought the sand looked good to eat.
I wanted this painting to look loose, painterly like. Notice that I’m focusing on lights and darks and leave out all facial features except for Daniela.
I really enjoyed painting this one, although it took me a couple of wipe outs and try again. This is a theme I don’t try very often… well almost never! painting figures is not something I do on a daily basis, but I’ll try to do more. This is the real beauty of the daily painting movement, it pushes my boundaries, making me tap into areas otherwise I would have never thought I would do good in, or even enjoy.
I just realized is 1:10 am, that means the 23rd! I started this painting on the 22nd, so I’ll count it for yesterday’s daily painting, so hopefully later on today I’ll have another one!
Thank you for stopping by.
