New York Union Worker

Oil on 1/8″ deep Hardboard
6″ high x 6″ wide
available
In February of this year I participated in one of the biggest international shows, the New York artexpo. I matched the 30 years of the show with a small collection of daily paintings which I called “30 paintings in 30 days”. Not only it was a blast I sold quite a few during the show and even after the show closed. I was the first daily painter to attend this type of show and I had a blast. After the show closed and while I was waiting for my husband to bring my car to start uploading the boxes I saw this guy, a union worker just sitting on a bench reading the newspaper.

I love your subjects, Manuela. Do take a camera everywhere you go to capture these people and ideas?

Hi Vikki!
Yes I do. Everywhere I go my camera is with me and in many cases from one photograph I take, 3-4 different paintings come out.
Painting on location “Plein Air” is something I don’t do anymore for personal reasons especially when traveling, too complicated and so little time to capture so many scenes that pass by so fast! so my camera becomes my compact plein air equipement giving me the right shot I really want with lights and shadows and tons and tons of pictures to chose from.

Fun painting, Manuela! The camera is indeed a handy reference tool. I’m impressed you got such great cooperation from the couple with the pumpkins!

Thank you Diana!
I know! I usually don’t ask people if I could photograph them, I just simple snatch a picture and if I’m too far away I use the zoom, but been in such a small place and me with my huge camera and Ruffo was kind of weird, so I decided to ask permission and everyone was really nice, I even got to talk to a mom with her three kids and she later requested a commission so it worked out really nice.
Thank you for stopping by!
