To me going to a museum is like a dream come true. I could spend days in it just learning from the old masters, soaking in every brush work, and scrutinizing every painting. Someone would ask me to live inside a museum I would be as happy as a kid in a candy store. But for my kids, well, that’s not the case.
When we visited Chicago this past July a visit to the Art Institute of Chicago Museum was a must and an almost obligated stop. As soon as we entered the museum the first thing my little Gabriel said was “it smells funny in here” to which I replied “that’s the smell of the culture” to which my son replied again “culture smells funny”… he’s just 6yo.
As we walked throughout the museum and took pictures of my favorite paintings, my guys got extremely bored, so the solution to that? my iphone of course, so while we walked the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist exhibits my boys would sit in a bench and play tic-tac-toe on the iphone. I just couldn’t resist snapping pictures at them sitting on the bench playing tic-tac-toe surrounded by so much culture and history. The old meets the new maybe?…

WOW! I just love this painting! Its beautiful – and so true! I love the way your boys inspired this painting, and they didn’t even know it.
I have taken my son to the MET and he brought along his gameboy – that was years ago. And he would find a corner, a quiet place while I studied the paintings and looked at them up close and personal. THIS PAINTING REALLY SPOKE TO MY HEART – AS AN ARTIST AND AS A MOM!!!
Kudos to you my friend!!!! Bravo!!!

Thank you Yvonne!
Took a few days to finish it but well worth it!
I can sure relate to the gameboy era! my oldest son used to play with it, now it belongs to my little one and he couldn’t love it more despite being of an “old technology” compared to what we have today that is!
Thank you for stopping by!

I had to laugh at this post, Manuela. My kids got their fill of museums at an early age, too. At least you got a good painting out of it!

Thank you Diana!
They remind me of me so much. At that age I wanted to just paint and I couldn’t care less about old masters, Picasso and museums at all, in fact I found them extremely boring just like them, I just didn’t have a gameboy or an iphone to pass the time haha! instead I would just sit and paint or draw, now I look up to the old masters to learn even more, isn’t it funny how things change as you grow older?
Thank you for stopping by Diana, always a pleasure hearing from you! =]
