Studies, whether is to quickly get an idea of how the painting might look before it becomes a bigger more time consuming work of art, are the best tool artists have, aside from the obvious, good canvases, brushes and paints. They allow us to produce inexpensively, while keeping our dexterity and skills fine-tuned.

The movement "A Painting a Day" from when back when, which became a thing for many of us artists around the world, allowed the production of small studies to be sold to the public and gave us a tool to experiment.

This little study was an experiment, a simplistic almost abstract apple wedges on a contrasting blue surface. Squint hard enough and you could almost see the US flag..
